Review of Agora (2009) by Risya H — 19 Jul 2011
Interesting crossroads of truth and fiction story of the ancient communal life in the fourth-century. It tells the story of the ongoing struggle of rational thought versus religious-politicking. I gotta say, however, the plot is thin, many is repetitives, the personal interactions of each characters falls flat so it lacks something to pull you in emotionally, and the viewers are left with the very slow speed.
Bottom line, although the movie never really works, but it still engages because it's actually about something and the realization that then some thousand years after the events portrayed in the film has the relevance in today's world where very similar things could, and frequently do, occur.
