Review of Against All Odds (1984) by Meriam A — 13 Apr 2008
:rotten: :rotten: (out of four).
I have been checking out some films from the past that I have missed, so I rented Against All Odds. There is some considerable talent behind involved with the film, but it doesn't add up to much..
.
Jeff Bridges, one of films most underrrated actors, stars as a football player who finds himself out of commission and in need of a paycheck. He is hired by James Woods to find is girlfriend (Rachel Ward) who has just taken off..
.
He searches for her in the beautiful Caribbean. The film is at its best while bathing in paradise. There, predictably he becomes involved with the woman he is supposed to return to Woods..
.
Circumstances require that everyone to return to L.A. and the film nosedives into all too familiar territory. There is nothing original about the second half of the film..
.
Bridges and Woods are the best reason to watch the film. Both own their parts and seem lost in search of a better movie. Rachel Ward, shows some class, but fails to ignite much warmth. What was all the fuss about. I couldn't figure out why the guys liked her so much..
