Review of Aftermath (1994) by Diana L — 11 Feb 2011
The second part of the trilogy, deals with the obvious closing of the life circle, which is death.
This has to be one of the sickest, goriest, and highly disturbing short films ever. Its wonderfully produced, by this sick (I'm guessing) yet daring director Nacho Cerdà.
This short horror film involves a morgue, corpses, guts, blood and generally what an autopsy looks like. On the other hand, there is the darkest site of an autopsy, which in this case is characterized by a necrophiliac raping of a mutilated corpse while photographs are taken. No if there was any cannibalism or not, I'll leave the answer to whoever dares to watch this.
Overall, its incredibly vivid and fascinating to say the least. There is no spoken dialogue, which would have been completely unnecessary, and this gives freedom to the viewer to focus on body language, facial expressions, and the surrounding sounds to create feelings and thoughts.
I have to warn you that it requires a strong stomach to be viewed, and if you can't be certain of your limits watch before eating or at least an hour after eating! I can't say the story is something unpredictable, but the image is so intense and creepy that it really doesn't matter, cause its so extreme that it will keep you on the edge of you seat ;).
