Review of After the Wedding (2006) by Kimberly B — 10 Dec 2007
I saw this for the first time when I was flying back from Austria last summer. (THANK YOU, KLM Airlines for including tv sets in the back of each airline seat! As a result, your flights were the best transatlantic ones EVER!).
I hadn't been very interested in seeing it, but I was so glad I did. WOW, but I was blown away. (Not the best film for watching in a crowded plane, though, as "tear-jerker" is a bit of an understatement. I had to squelch outright sobs).
I saw it again & this time could devote more attention to appreciating the acting and cinematography, both of which are fantastic. I thought about this film for a long time after having seen it, and the emotional power loses nothing in a second viewing.
Highly recommend.
****************.
Can someone tell me, though, where I read this story before?? It's been driving me crazy -- early on in the film, I knew what would happen, not because I figured it out based on clues, but because I swear that I have read this basic story somewhere else. Imdb and Netflix have not helped, but does anyone know where I might have read this before? Is the plot twist such a cliche that it's appeared in plenty of other books/movies?
