Review of After the Rain (2000) by Kris S — 09 Apr 2014
"You glisten too brightly... Like a drawn sword... You're like a sword without a sheath. You cut well, but the best sword is kept in it's sheath.".
- Sanjuro (1962), Akira Kurosawa.
A travelling samurai, ronin, forced to keep shelter from the rains at a country inn ends up giving joy and happiness to the locals by his humble and humane conduct.
Kurosawa's beautiful farewell to cinema.
"As fine a swordsman as you are, you can't find yourself a place. It's ironic isn't it? Still, that's fine. You won't push people aside, steal their place. When you have the chance, you make wishes come true for people who are poor but good.".
- Ame Agaru (1999), Akira Kurosawa.
