Review of After Life (1999) by Tom S — 13 Mar 2011
Such is the efficacy of Koreeda Hirokazu's simple direction, that the documentary style and simple interview format becomes oddly appropriate even for a life after death fantasy like After Life. As with Koreeda's other movies it all comes down to the power of detail and character, making every story told ring true and instantly relatable.
After Life is also a celebration of filmmaking itself, the solace and consolation it offers us.
