Review of After Hours (1985) by Damian J — 27 Dec 2009
A lesser known, but by no means lesser work, in Scorsese's many homages to New York. I remember watching this in the '90s and thinking it was hilarious, not knowing who Scorsese was or realizing how perfectly orchestrated the screenplay is.
I tracked it down again recently after watching The Coen Brothers' "A Serious Man" which reminded me of this. Griffin Dunne gives an amazing performance as an ordinary man perpetually punished throughout his journey to and from SoHo.
This is a smart, layered script and Scorsese really knows how to bring out the humour and truth in little moments.
