Review of After Hours (1985) by Jenny G — 05 Jan 2011
If someone ever dare to say he's had some terrible hours in which terrible events have occurred to him one after the other, just let him watch "After Hours" and he'll realize he's really had a wonderful day.
The reason that the movie is underrated compared to the other old Scorsese films has nothing to do with the quality of the movie, as it's perfect in every way. However, since the flick has nothing to do with mobs (almost) and isn't starring Pesci, Keitel, and most importantly De Niro, this tends to be sucked by the other equally good films of that generation like Taxi Driver and Raging Bull.
Griffin Dunne was fabulous in his role, and lead the movie perfectly, as was Scorsese with his direction and his wonderful shots. He really made this film a masterpiece by letting the audience care for the character involved and live the nightmare themselves. It is unsettling, and it will bother most persons, and that's because the director succeeded to drain whoever's watching. Just terrific !
