Review of After Hours (1985) by Tor M — 30 Aug 2011
Not the typical Scorsese movie, a nightmare like comedy drama that develops brilliantly.
Griffin Dunne is another brilliant feature here. His character is super and Dunne delivers a great role. The film itself is dream-like and creates a certain feel of paranoia ala "Jacob's Ladder", but "After Hours" feel a bit less creepy and a bit more complex. It's lovely made. The camera circle around, capturing loads of space while the character does their job on set. There are many great pictures we get to see here.
When it comes to the plot I must say I found it original and interesting. The weird and characters and the slightly bizarre happenings is a fresh breath, making it both dreamy and interesting. The pace must also be mentioned, it happens so much that it feels like the leads situation goes on for a long time. It also manage to stay quite exciting and the character connections is working out very good.
