Review of After Earth (2013) by Dave A — 30 Aug 2015
I liked The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable and Signs. If you're going to fall, fall reaching. That's what M. Night Shyamalan has been doing. Reaching. This partnership with Will Smith turns The Fresh Prince dour.
Yeah, I get the whole distant and detached dad. The whole "ghosting" is a pretty interesting concept. This film is an opportunity for Kitai and Cypher (get it?) Raige (get it? Rage?) to bond.
This is the second film that both Smiths have worked on; third, if you count the Smith produced The Karate Kid. It follows the formula pretty well, and tags all the bases. It's not a bad film. It's just not a blockbuster film.
The Pursuit of Happyness wasn't a blockbuster, but it was a significant one. This is a significant film.
