Review of Africa United (2010) by Eric G — 21 Nov 2010
A road movie across half of Africa with 5 children looking for a purpose and a family. It's a fairly gentle tale with a strong message: through the trip we encounter some key issues that Africa faces through the eyes of these children: aids, orphan children whose parents are either killed by war or disease, children soldiers kidnapped and brainwashed to fight guerilla wars, education, sport, especially football, every day insecurity, the useful but limited international aid.
.. What makes this film endearing is the cast. There is a chemistry between the children that kept me wanting to discover their next adventure. The film is split in chapters each dealing more or less with an issue.
There are a few interludes with some great and original animation done in African style. It's not a hard hitting film but a refreshing, unusual charming tale suitable for children. Indeed there were young children in the cinema.
