Review of Afghan Star (2008) by Haniffa I — 02 Apr 2010
Giving it 4*s for the effort Havana Marking put into this docudrama. Given the backdrop in which it was filmed, it wasn't an easy task. It SEEMS a democratic debut for Afghanistan, prolly more so than the presidential election.
This docudrama builds a bridge of understanding towards a country, which all that was ever portrayed about in the media was war and the Talibans. It depicts the aspirations of the different ethnic groups represented by each contestant.
It makes us realise that we r similar; each having dreams of a better future. It only humbles us that the struggle some have to put up for the same dream might be twice as difficult given the harsh conditions.
