As unremarkable a film that I can remember. the story is book ended by a narration that screams of self-importance. the main bulk of the film is nick nolte, growling his way through scenes, from one incoherent plot point to another, all building up to.

.. nothing. bleak, cold, messy, and to top it off, just plain boring. on a side note, the fact that james coburn won an oscar (over the masterful billy bob thorton in 'a simple plan') is just absurd.

if anything, this could be a razzie-winning performance. both nolte and coburn stumble around, getting upset, drinking, stumbling, growling, etc. there's no dimensionality to their roles - its all about over-acting and invariably who can be most villainous.

the movie is about as much fun to watch as someone committing suicide.
