Review of Ae Fond Kiss... (2004) by Monica B — 07 Jan 2008
The movie's strongest point is the script. The conflict faced by both protagonists feels realistic, and not at all stereotypical. This movie does not blame either the couple nor their surroundings for the conflict. In the real world, it is often the case that neither or both parties can be blamed for a particular conflict.
However, I feel that the chemistry is missing between the two leads, and I think that Yaqub plays Casim too passively - at times I feel that Birthistle (Roisin) is the only one trying to act well! The lack of passion/chemistry makes it hard sometimes to sympathise with the protagonists.
