Review of Advise & Consent (1962) by Steve W — 14 Aug 2010
An epic battle of words and minds. A Secretary of State nominee is a presidential favourite, but a dark secret may cause some problems. Conflict arises from every orifice and there is some excellent razor sharp dialogue throughout.
The first fifteen minutes is painfully slow as they introduce the players, but the movie gets interesting once Henry Fonda enters the picture. The film is tense and the plot complex, delivering twists throughout and engaging the viewer.
Taking a lot of risks, the movie does spew a lot of political jargon and swaps the perspective on what character is in the spotlight. There are some dated aspects but a very well done political film that is still relevant to this day.
