Review of Adventures in Babysitting (1987) by Julia B — 14 Oct 2008
80's classic. Who wouldn't want Elisabeth Shue to come over and babysit? I'm a little bummed because this is a Chicago movie that wasn't filmed in Chicago. Still this is packed with more good lines than most modern movies.
"Dont fuck with Lords of Hell.""Don't fuck with the babysitter." "Take the Brady Bunch upstairs." "Nobody leaves this stage without singing the blues". Plus youve got Brenda at the shady bus station.
"Get out of my house!" says some bum to her while shes in a phone booth. What kind of prick would ditch out on Elisabeth Shue to take out some other girl on a date? We also have Handsome John Pruitt, a radical college party, racing against the clock to get home before the parents, and Vincent D'Onofrio as a Thor-like character who "isn't a homo".
I don't know anyone who has seen this movie who hasnt driven to Chicago and not thought about the climatical building scene while seeing the diamond building in the horizon.
