Review of Adventures in Babysitting (1987) by Rocknblues 8 — 08 Dec 2009
A fun Chris Columbus comedy that's half grounded in reality and half fantasy world. Shue was a likable young actress that never really hit her stride after the 80's, but she really holds this picture up sort of like Matthew Brodrick does Ferris Bueller's Day off. I will admit that it's no classic, but I actually like it much better than Ferris. I know I'm in the minority on that, but I never was a big fan of Ferris.
It surpasses it's formulaic goals with fun scenes like the Babysitting Blues scene and a couple of other scenes in the wild trip through Chicago. All in all, it's one bubblegum 80's comedy that I have to admit that to liking. I will say that it could have been a better film if it would have decided on being a more reality based comedy or if it would have when all the way with the wild cartoonish adventures.
In the end I will give it a 6/10 as a guilty pleasure.
