Review of Adventureland (2009) by Luis G — 02 Oct 2011
A disappointing film, I was not impressed and can't seem to quite get this film. I think it doesn't help that I saw the trailer, it makes out its alot funnier than it is and it really isn't a comedy it is more a drama. A few things iritated me about this film, firstly the soundtrack is really good but felt more fanboyish than actually constructively chosen. Don't get me wrong it would make a fantastic compilation album but not for this teenage coming-of-age film. Secondly, the fact that it was set in 1987 makes no difference to me, there is nothing in the film to suggest the year, apart from the subtitle at the beginning. Not even soundtrack (Lou reed, rolling stones, new york dolls, velvet underground?). So why make a issue of it and include it in the film?
I felt the plot was too uninteresting and apart from Jesse Eisenberg and kirsten stewart, the rest of the film I simply could not either sympathise with or relate too.
