Review of Adventureland (2009) by Holly R — 14 Nov 2012
I'll admit - I picked up this film initially because of it's self-boasting David Bowie, The Cure and Lou Reed soundtrack. Not only was the music great, but the story was fresh and charming. Kristen Stewart slipped into the role of moody band shirt-wearing leading lady perfectly - by far her best acting role to date.
Despite the label of comedy, it was the old cars, groovy soundtrack and reminiscent cultural references that made the movie. There wasn't any memorably laugh-out-loud moments, and the characters of Paulette and Bobby did nothing for me.
You know what? I don't even care. The interaction between Jesse and Kristen (playing James and Em) was far better than I could ever anticipate. I actually cared about their relationship - which doesn't happen often, with me.
Overall, Adventureland is a sweet film.
