Review of Adventureland (2009) by Fröderick P — 30 Nov 2012
To me, this film felt like it wasn't exactly sure what it was - is it a comedy? If so, why is there a distinct lack of any real humour in the film?
Is it a drama? In that case, why was it a stock-standard story and contained so many wacky characters?
Some films are like this. Stuck in limbo. I must admit, from the acting point of view, I didn't mind Jesse Eisenberg's performance. He didn't have that much to work with, and neither did Ryan Reynolds, and as such, they didn't produce ground-breaking performances considering the roles they've taken before/since.
The real positive from this film came from the amusing turn from Bill Hader and Kirsten Wiig, who were amusing as the husband and wife ownership team of the amusement park.
The other positive came in the form of the soundtrack. Great tunes used really well, some of the songs I felt were used well included "Don't Dream It's Over", "Satellite of Love" and "Breakin' the Law".
The big negative: Kristen Stewart still can't act.
Another average teen comedy that somehow became a favourite.
