Review of Adventureland (2009) by John T — 27 Jul 2013
Contrary to the trailers Adventureland is not a happy, feel good comedy. it's a dark, serious, and somewhat depressing drama that really isn't very funny (it tries to be funny, just doesn't really succeed).
The performances are pretty good all around with Jesse Eisenberg, Ryan Reynolds (really not in it all that much, and he's not much of a mentor...kind of just there. I dig him in the film, just wish he had more to do), Matt Bush, and Kristen Stewart being the most memorable (the word memorable being used loosely, this ain't a memorable film kids).
Adventureland is clumsy, awkward, weird, and bland. At least it's soundtrack is good, and it's got one of the more realistic portrayals of put use I've seen...so there's that. It ends up being more of a lame duck than anything else.
I'd say skip it, you won't be missing much at all.
