Review of Adventureland (2009) by Mark A — 09 Aug 2013

The offbeat love story Greg Mottola gives us in Adventureland is soaked in heart and remarkably well grounded. Since the crux of the film lies in it's emotion, a talented cast was essential, and Adventureland nailed it.

I'll admit that I was skeptical when I first read that Kristen Stewart was playing one of the leads, but she performed incredibly well. Still not as well as others could have in my opinion, but well nonetheless.

Jesse Eisenberg and Martin Starr both provided there unique quirkiness and Ryan Reynolds was at the top of his game. I actually preferred this film to it's companion (so to speak) Superbad. Adventureland had more heart, more story, and more to say.

All that being said, the script could've been better. For me, the movie fell flat towards the end and never really delivered on the characters relationships. Bottom line, this is a solid indie flick that most people would, or should, enjoy.

It has a very down-to-earth message that more people should hear. I'd recommend it to pretty much anyone.
