Review of Adventureland (2009) by Riley P — 25 Jun 2012
I'd been told for a few years now that I had to see this movie. Never got around to it, but once I did I must say it was one hell of a movie. The story of a kid who has to work at a theme park (which I did) it tells the classic misadventures of the guy and his falling for the weird, quiet, cute chick (don't we all?).
Jesse Eisenberg is what made me want to watch this movie. He is unbelievably good in this movie. We know he's funny (Zombieland) and that he can act (The Social Network) but this movie brings a little bit of both from him and he delivers in my opinion a very unique performance unlike any character I've seen him play.
Kristen Stewart plays the lead female role. Now I have a problem taking her too seriously as an actor due to Twilight, but she really did do well in this movie. I grant you its nothing to drastically different from other roles shes played, however there seemed something different and better about this one.
It is the actions of the characters that make the movie so funny and drive the plot. It is very well written and really brings the audience to care about how things work out for James (Eisenberg). Well directed but nothing that is to flashy or artistic, in fact holding back some to allow the story to take center stage really suits the movie well.
I really, really liked this movie and recommend it to just about everyone.
