A straight up retelling of the true story would have been more interesting than the fictional addition of an alternate middle story. Just annoying fluff. Shailene did a credible job and 5 stars for the ocean, always reliably dramatic.
I can't say I believed their love story. I did feel some emotion when she was saved in the end as well as compassion for her plight, and cheer at her pluck. Does not make me want to sail the ocean blue!
