Review of Adrift (2018) by Edmond P — 24 Aug 2018
Adrift's selling point is that it is based on a true story, but everything else falls apart. It is similar to tons of survival movies that celebrates the incredible will of the human spirit, but the tale of Tami Oldham does not have enough content for it to be made into a alluring movie.
The story arc is straightforward, and the romantic love between the couple is told in flashbacks and through Tami Oldham's hallucinations. It is neither able to capture the audience's attention through the storyline nor the acting as the emotional nuances of loneliness, desperation, resignation and fear that one would probably feel in such situations were not acted out well.
I probably would blame the script more than the acting of Shailene Woodley.
