Review of Admission (2013) by Jane M — 26 Mar 2013
I think the trailer for the film is misleading because it pitches it as a comedy. The film itself actually surprised me with it's layered themes and emotional depth.. I really enjoyed it once it figured out the story it was really telling about a woman who has been risk-averse her whole life, discovering the aching emotional vacuum inside her.
(No surprise it's helmed by About A Boy director Paul Weitz). Yes, you can see them getting together from a mile a way, but that's about as chick-flick as it gets, and who wouldn't want that Paul Rudd fantasy?! I loved Fey's performance for it's simplicity.
I don't need her to make me laugh out loud all the time. Blame the marketing department for false advertising, but see the film for its sweet performances.
