Review of Admission (2013) by Peter S — 17 Aug 2013
I don't understand the vitriol of the reviews for this movie. It seems everyone was expecting something from this movie because of the actors involved. I learned many movies ago to watch a movie for the story, regardless of who is in it. I rented this movie because the story sounded interesting. I'm not a big fan of either of the main actors, but with so few choices of worthwhile movies released this year I'm running out of recently released movies I'm willing to invest my time in.
Admission was entertaining, interesting and held my attention throughout. Lily Tomlin was a pleasant surprise, and the young man playing Nelson, Travaris Spears, was very good.
It's a shame that audience reviewers become "critics" and forget to enjoy the movie experience and need to stop hating perfectly good films. Admission is unlikely to win any awards, and certainly could have been better if not so rushed at only 107 minutes, but it is a thoroughly enjoyable movie and one I recommend to anyone.
