Review of Admission (2013) by Michael S — 30 Sep 2013
This one isn't trying to reinvent the wheel, but I do feel that it's a victim of the poorly advertised kind. This movie took a lot of guff for not being hilarious but when I finally came around to seeing it I knew before half-way that big laughs we've come to expect from Tina Fey and Paul Rudd were not what this one had on its mind.
There were certainly enough laughs to keep it from straight drama, and I got involved in the story of this woman going out of her way to make sure a less than reputable student got seen for what other non-academic traits he might have.
I enjoyed the loose and easy way these characters inhabited their world and didn't try to force any jokes or an emotional point. A pleasantly mild, diverting change of pace.
