Review of Admission (2013) by Jonathan B — 28 Jan 2014
Admission has a hard time making up its mind what it wants to be. It tries screwy comedy, which figured prominently in its marketing, failing almost every time, and then it tries a lot of emotional drama, which it's much better at but still not without a fair share of eye-rolling moments.
It's all tied up in a neat rom-com bow with a slight academia twist, and it goes down easy, but the real reason it's able to skate by at all is because of Tina Fey and Paul Rudd, who are able to elevate their stock characters to allow for a passing grade.
Barely.
