Jeremiah (Nat Wolff): I read everything. I read biographies, mainly because I didn't know how other people live their lives. I think my variations reading came from a deep longing for something that was missing. I was searching for someone, for my story. To not feel so alone.

The movie was formulaic, first and foremost and the forced sentimentality didn't help either since it came across as disingenuous. I love Paul Rudd, he's a wonderfully charming actor and has an unnatural way of melting even the frostiest of hearts. Speaking of frosty, Tina Fey was unusually mechanical, customarily she's the girl next door-- approachable and seemingly nice, but in this film, she just seemed stiff and unnatural-- maybe it's the character, I don't know, I normally like her but in this film, it felt like she was completely miscast. The story was interesting, but even with the quirky characters, still unoriginal and slow pacing made for a fairly boring movie. There were just too many unnecessary storylines that were just thrown in for content but were so underdeveloped, that it hindered rather than helped. I'm definitely glad this was free during the HBO preview because I would have been so mad if I had to pay good money to watch this film (which I almost did) and it turned out to be a disappointment.
