Review of Addicted (2014) by Bree S — 11 Oct 2014
I wanted to like it. I really did. but from the moment I read William Levy was cast as Quinton I was a little skeptical. I got over it quickly though and went to see it anyway. When movies are presented as "based upon the book" I have come to never expect 100% of the plot to be included, but there were just too many liberties taken in this production.
If it weren't for the characters names and very few key scenes this would be a totally unrelated movie. There isn't enough background given on why Zoe is a sex addict, and instead we are presented with this woman who basically is mad that her pretty awesome husband won't let her do certain things in the bedroom and looks elsewhere for her satisfaction.
You don't feel sorry for her. You don't even want to feel sorry for her. And then there's this random and very quick flashback that doesn't get unexplained until 1 sentence at the very end of the movie and I'm guessing is supposed to make you go "oh it all makes sense now".
Even if you haven't read the book there are a lot of dots left unconnected. The whole movie was really just a big mess of soft core scenes, cheesy lines, and head scratching moments. Interestingly enough, Levy's performance in the last scenes were my favorite.
..but that's not really saying much. If you read the book, skip this one completely or at least have a few drinks before you go. If you haven't read the book, who knows, you might have a completely different outlook.
Don't say I didn't warn you though.
