You don't always see a movie about the making of the same movie you're watching that is about a guy trying to write a movie. Or in simpler words, a movie where the director stars as himself being himself.
That's originality points right there. However, a story this tricky just made wait for a mind-blowing plot twist that never really came, and as it was said in the story; it's the impressive endings that make the difference.
