This is a really clever idea ... and it's well-executed. I don't think it's the blinding work of genius that it's often portrayed as. I think it feels quite a bit like what it is ... Kaufman's attempt to get out of writing an adaptation of "The Orchid Thief".
That it's an extraordinarily clever attempt to get out of a predicament doesn't quite disguise the fact that there's very little beneath it's surface ruminations on the writing process.
