Review of Ad Astra (2019) by Wagyumeatloaf — 04 Oct 2019

I'm torn on this one because I love me a space adventure and the visuals and atmosphere are amazing but I just couldn't shake the feeling of mehness when I left the theater. It's not bad but a few things drag it down for me.

First, the action scenes felt out of place and were unnecessary diversions that didn't affect the storyline so it was like they were just checking off a box which contributes to a bit of an identity crisis of what kind of film it wants to be.

Second, the narration was totally unnecessary and felt distracting. Finally, the plot was very straightforward and obvious. It failed to trigger my inquisitive mind which is a necessity for a slow-burn kind of movie.
