Review of Act of Valor (2012) by Jeff W — 06 Aug 2012
A movie tribute to actual Navy SEALs is hardly a bad idea, they are after all the guys who took out Osama Bin Laden last year. But Act of Valor isn't exactly a movie, it's a commercial. Filmmakers Mike McCoy and Scott Waugh enlisted real SEALs to portray themselves and the result is pure Hollywood rah-rah bullshit.
The plot, such as it is, involves Chechen rebels, Mexican drug cartels and various sorts of terrorists, but it's all staged. And the acting, well, there is none. Which isn't the fault of the guys in uniform.
But seriously Act of Valor plays like one of those boneheaded ads for military service, the ones that have a Kid Rock or Three Doors Down song playing. The Navy SEALs deserved better.
