Review of Act of Valor (2012) by Daniel D — 06 Apr 2013
To those of you out there that reviewed Act of Valor and offered up such stale comments about the acting (by Navy SeALs, not phony actors), comments about recruiting videos (SeALs don't recruit) and the obvious bad language attributes used in the film (I know plenty of sniveling cowards who also use it) I merely wish to share my own: I doubt any of you have EVER stood to be counted when your name was called, much less been in a situation where someone was shooting at you.
If you had, you would have uttered several profanities and soiled yourself. Killing another human being isn't a decent act, but when their rifle is pointed at you, you don't have much choice. I served this country for 22 years, and although I was never a SeAL, I know that what counts most is the man or woman next to you.
We do it for them, if for nothing else. I'm sure there are people out there that have no idea of the complexities of war and thought that this movie was a farce...to them I would say don't knock it until you try it.
I'm sure that if given the same opportunity to portray a soldier on the big screen, I would have fared far worse than the actor SeALs in this movie. I have used profanity, even when not under combat conditions and it would seem to me that the depiction of good and bad guys getting killed in such a gruesome manner as how this film portrays it, most people WOULD NOT want to join any branch of the military.
So to you reviewers who sit in your comfy recliners on well-rounded behinds and spew such irrelevant swill about our nations finest, remember that we are people, too; we just had enough backbone to stand up when our name was called.
'Nuff said.
