Review of Act of Valor (2012) by Donny D — 09 Apr 2013
I did not come with high expectations on this one but I expected a realistic feel, which was given. The action is not as fulfilling as expected. The main cast is the core of marines, who are actual marines and not actors, with assistance from professional actors to create a plot. The acting is inadequate and rather robotic and the humour falls flat, but what would you expect from individuals who aren't actors. Due to this, the characters are not given life and are not drawn very well.
The plot, terrorism, is rather simple and adequate to push the movie forward. The action sequences are quite realistic with exciting scenes and great camera angles. Since the emotion was weak throughout the plot, the action lacks the impact it could have made and that dampers the experience. As a whole, Act of Valor is fairly weak due to the lack of depth but the action may captivate you.
