Lacking a narrative focus and engaging characters, Universe is only entertaining on a visual level and of course, the musical numbers are brilliant. It's disappointing and doesn't provide the emotional punch that the Beatles so often did.
Not a total failure, but not overwhelmingly successful - Taymor should really stick to theatre.
