Review of Across the Universe (2007) by Katrina S — 27 May 2011
A cinematic representation of The Beatles' classic songs. The songs are remastered, yet it doesn't take away from it's original genius.
Summary: An English immigrant comes to America in search of his birth father. He just wishes to meet him, once he arrives he befriends Max, and later falls in love with Max's sister. Max is enlisted in the Vietnam war, and in protest Max's sister, Lucy, joins a radical anti-war group.
Personally I'm a huge fan of musicals, and I adore the Beatles, so this movie has it all. Some say this movie is cliche as far as the love department goes, which baffles me. How many movies have you seen represent the literal meaning of Beatles' songs and show a hot British guy falling in love with an American girl? Not to mention the artistic representation of the Vietnam war, the visuals were impressive. There's no other word for it, this movie is Art.
