Review of Across the Universe (2007) by John S — 20 May 2014
Before anyone scorns me for what I'm about to say about this movie, let me just say that I'm a huge Beatles fanatic. So it's not because I'm not a Beatles fan on why I didn't enjoy this movie as much as I thought I would.
Okay, now let me tell you what I did enjoy about this movie. Visually this movie was awesome. The sets and the effects were amazing, and it was definitely pleasant to enjoy. The actual vocal performances were good too, thank god for that, cause if they got crappy singers to sing this music I would of walked out. And some of the storyline made sense with the music too. It also reminded me a lot of the musical "Hair", which I particapated in last year. Reminiscing about that during the movie was nice.
Unfortuantely that's about all I enjoyed.
Now for the things I didn't enjoy. A great chunk of this movie seemed like it strung a bunch of Beatles tunes together and tired to make a story behind it, which for the Beatles music, that's the last thing they need. The Beatles music, in my opinion, is strong enough to stand by itself, and doesn't need a storyline to go behind it to make sense. Especially when you already knew their actual intentions when writing the songs (Did I say I was a fan?). On top of that, the story was fairly weak, and the choreo wasn't that great either.
However I'm probably going to see it again, because all my friends said it was amazing and it changed their lives. :/.
