Review of Across the Pacific (1942) by Vic V — 03 May 2017
It is with noble intent to reassemble actors from a successful film like The Maltese Falcon, but in this case despite Bogart, Greenstreet, and Astor's usually fine performances the story itself is so convoluted it leaves the audience in "the wilderness of mirrors" trying to figure out just WTF is going on? Not to mention there is no chemistry between Bogart and Astor.
She is not the most feminine of actresses. And trying to figure out who is who brings a bit of credence to the adage "some people all look the same". By the time it becomes clearer the entire experience is anti-climatic.
Good luck with it and syonara.
