Review of Accepted (2006) by Jack M — 01 Nov 2009
In Steve Pink?s Accepted, the meaning of ?roll on the floor laughing? shows its true colors. The movie, besides having an awesome cast, also has one of the best scripts ever written. With hilarious line after hilarious line, this movie brings a definite light to anyone?s day. The cast consists of Justin Long, playing the desperate Bartleby Gaines; Jonah Hill as smart and safe Sherman Schrader; and Adam Herschman plays the funny and stress-free Glen. This great cast is backed up by director Steve Pink and Adam Cooper managing the screenplay.
The movie Accepted is a movie about rejection and overcoming rejection. Justin Long?s character sets out to go to college. Only one problem, you need to get accepted to one first. Bartleby (B.), instead of trying to get into college, he creates a college of his own, South Harmon Institute of Technology. He and some of his friends attend this college, alone, in a building built to be a psychiatric hospital. When the word gets out about the college soon the South Harmon Institute of Technology has hundreds of students and 10,000 dollars tuition for first semester from all of them.
They try to evade the law, their parents, and the real Harmon University in order to save their school and their lives. In B?s journey he learns that not getting into a real college isn?t that big of a deal, at least, it is to his parents. His dad accepts him when he hears of his acceptance to the fake college and he despises him when he hears of his plan.
Even though the movie has good laughs and a good cast some of the morals of the film itself are questionable. One is creating a college, what a desperate thing to do, even though it worked for some time, but not forever.
Accepted is a movie of fun, denial, rejection, and deceit. The movie is a great combination of laugh-out-loud comedy, nail-biting suspense, and a couple of screams that will keep you on the edge of your seat. I loved watching it and I would watch it again and again and again.
