Review of Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie (2016) by Jon E — 01 Jul 2016
'Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie' is a fitting tribute to the 'Ab Fab' legacy and serves as a testament to Jennifer Saunders' longevity as a comedy writer and the timelessness of her comedic taste.
Saunders and Lumley slip back into their roles as anti-socialites Edina Monsoon and Patsy Stone with admirable ease and give a brilliant performance. Lumley in particular deserves praise for her delivery and ability to elicit laugh after laugh from the audience.
The heap of celebrity cameos work really well and are incorporated without it being made into a statement. The plot line is thoroughly engaging and keeps the viewer hooked, moving at a good pace with bundles of laughs.
TV series often do not weather the transfer to the big screen well, but Saunders has crafted the feature well. Paying homage to the series' roots and its most popular characters, this is certainly a must see for any fan of the series, and even those who are simply a fan of good entertainment.
