Review of Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie (2016) by K Nife C — 01 Aug 2016
"Actually" is a word that I tend to eschew because it implies that something that normally shouldn't be, is. I can't help but say it - this is "Actually Fabulous". After watching the trailers, I was expecting to be cringing my way through, but fortunately this seems to be the sequel to "Zoolander" that Ben Stiller could obviously not pull off.
By no means is it an intelligent comedy, but it manages to pull off plenty of silliness all the while satirizing the fashion/entertainment industry and celebrity worship. While it gets lazy with cameos or physical gags, it still sets itself apart from many modern comedies because it never takes itself seriously or demands the audience to do the same.
Quick editing and a short run time guarantees that it never gets boring. In terms of costumes and sets, it resembles a psychedelic circus of tackiness, with the resulting cacophony inducing brain overload.
All in all, it is an experience that some might find obnoxious, but imbibing is highly recommended for optimal viewing. By no means is the film absolutely good, but I would gladly watch it again.
