Review of Absolute Power (1997) by Thomas F — 18 Oct 2007
A very mild-mannered, gentlemanly thriller, more akin to 'The Thomas Crown Affair' than 'Enemy of the State'. That is its virtue, but at the same time its greatest problem. The plot is quite intriguing and holds a lot of promise, but the pacing is dreadful, the film seems as if it would have liked to be a melodram, and was born into the wrong genre.
And sorry, but Gene Hackman really isn't presidential (but then again, neither is Bush). Still, a solid film, well worth watching.
