Review of Absolute Power (1997) by David S — 06 Feb 2009
A thief happens to be in the same exact room during the same time as a murder involving the president himself occurs. The secret service clean the room, don't find the thief's hiding spot, and just happen to leave the "murder weapon" behind.
The thief takes it and is now on the run from government where both his friends and the viewer don't believe his over-the-top story. Indeed, the storyline is fairly preposterous and ludicrous to say the least, requiring the viewer to give quite a suspension of disbelief.
However, the performances are strong, the plotting is tight, the directing is slick, and the suspense is genuine, which all makes for a rather entertaining thriller that will go by pleasantly. Don't expect anything original or profound, this is just very effective escapism.
