Review of Absolute Power (1997) by Jennifer O — 27 Feb 2006
A little sick now, but wanted to write a few lines about this movie.
Saw this very good thriller last night. It had been a while so I didn't remember all of the details (for instance, the "sex" scene between Hackman and the wife of his father figure was much longer than I would have liked and that is always kind of awkward with mixed company), but it was very good.
The cast? Great, just great. We have Clint Eastwood as the professional burglar, Gene Hackman as the President, Judy Davis as the Secretary of State, Scott Glenn and Dennis Haysbert as Secret Service men, EG Marshall as Hackman's mentor, Ed Harris as the cop in charge of the investigation and Laura Linney as Eastwood's estranged daughter. What a great cast.
Anyway, it's a very solid thriller, with just a few nitpicky implausibilities which I have nobly decided to ignore because everyone is so damned good. Not a rotten performance in the bunch. I'd buy this one for sure.
