It is no surprise The Asylum would come out with a low budget version of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. They tend to look at big budget movies that will come out and say hey let's take that concept and put our own twist to it. Now while there is still time before Vampire Hunter comes out we will have to look at this movie as a separate entity. First the history buffs will cry out about the inaccuracies when it comes to the secret service so there is that. Add two particular members of the team with Lincoln and you have a bunch of confused viewers. However they took various items from Lincoln's speaches and other famous Presidential sayings i.e. 'walk softly and carry a big stick' and not make them forced.

Bill Oberst Jr. did a fantastic job as Lincoln and I would be one to argue that he deserves to be in bigger movies. Hannah Bryan took a shoe horned former love interest and actually made her a sympathetic character. Jason Vail however defenitely walks out of this movie with some off the sets crumbs hanging on his lips with his portrayal of John Wilkinson. The rest of the cast did a fine job with what they are given.

The make up affects were definetly better then you would think a movie with a 150,000 thousand dollar budget would be. This is especially evident with the character Sophia by the end of the movie. The only complaints someone could have is that they shot the movie in the day for the most part, but it makes the zombies work as they still have a visual interest to them. Plus the CGI for the various blood spurts are a little horrible, but they did get what was paid for.

Is Abraham vs Zombies a good movie? Honestly no, but you don't have to be good to be entertaining. Bill Oberst Jr. definitely does it by making sure Lincoln takes charge and does what is needed to survive and get his men out of there. The best scenes are him talking to his men and coming up with a plan of action.
