Review of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (2012) by Glenn C — 04 Mar 2013

Before you see Spielberg's new film "Lincoln" make sure you know the full story. In 2009 Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov teamed up to produce a great little animated sic-fi flick called "9" and they have joined forces again to bring us "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter".

Working on the premise that Lincoln's mother was killed by a vampire, he spent his formative years slaying the creatures of the night with a silver axe. I call them creatures of the night but like Twilight, these vamps have no problem walking in broad daylight (lame).

The film looks good but there is no substance whatsoever. With such a far-fetched narrative the movie doesn't allow the viewer to buy into it. Obviously a huge suspension of disbelief is required but even the most creative of minds would struggle accepting it for what it is.

With two unique and creative fantasy-based directors producing this movie, it's astonishingly bad. How'd they end up with this mess? Bekmambetov was catapulted into the world's eye with the incredible Night Watch and Day Watch but since then he's been on a downhill slide producing crap like Black Lightening, The Darkest Hour and Apollo 18.

He's got a lot of work to redeem himself. Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is a sloppy, boring mess of a movie. The Asylum mock-buster "Abraham Lincoln Vs Zombies" is even better than this.
