Review of Above the Law (1988) by Patrick C — 16 Jul 2009
One of Seagal's first films sets the formula for most that come afterwards. In some ways, the movie was ahead of its time, diving into current political issues in a desperate bid to make itself relevant and cerebral.
Sadly, these are the parts of the film that haven't aged well. What would be a fine action film, is neddlessly weighted down. The supporting cast is sharp and entertaining. Never again would Seagal have the kindof of B List cast to neither outshine him nor drag the film down.
